What are Aquaflow Tablets for?Water is your body's most important nutrient; it is involved in every bodily function, and makes up 70- 75% of your total body weight. Water helps you maintain body temperature and metabolize body fat; it also aids digestion, lubricates and cushions organs, transports nutrients and flushes toxins from the body. Water enters the system through food and liquid consumption and leaves via the kidneys, bowel, lungs and skin. It is normal to have body weight fluctuations of 3-5 pounds in a day, however higher fluctuations may be the result of excess water retention. Water Retention (or oedema) is an abnormal buildup of excess fluid in the body tissues. Excess fluid usually leads to a puffy, shiny appearance and a doughy feel. Water Retention is typically first noticed by swelling of the extremities. It occurs when the body's normal balance of fluid intake and output is disturbed. Oedema is not a disease in itself. Rather, it is a clinical sign which may be associated with an underlying medical problem. It is usually caused by conditions that affect the circulatory system, such as hypothyroidism, high or low blood pressure, heart and kidney disorders, as well as diseases of the arteries and veins. However, oedema can occur in a fit and healthy person as well, under certain conditions; such as hot weather, immobility, a diet high in salt, and pregnancy or menstruation (as changes in hormones can affect the rate at which water enters or leaves the tissues). This is the reason why Water Retention is much more common in women than men. A natural approach can be used to help people with water retention. Dandelion is a plant that acts like a natural diuretic. It stimulates the removal of waste/toxins via the bile and the urine, and spares the potassium that is otherwise lost with conventional diuretics. Juniper and Cleavers are also well known herbs that have been used traditionally as diuretics, stimulating the flow of urine and promoting urine formation. Buchu and Uva Ursi are two other herbs that have traditionally been used as urinary tract disinfectants and diuretics. They also show anti-inflammatory properties. Finally, Barberry, Burdock and Bladderwrack are herbals that have traditionally been used in conditions that may cause oedema and therefore are thought to be helpful.
